Power Donut2™ The Power Donut2™ (PD2) intelligent electronic device is an instrumentation platform whose functions include measuring and monitoring the electrical, thermal and mechanical parameters of high voltage overhead conductors. PD2 is an evolution from the original Nitech Inc. Power-Donut™ providing a wide range of application possibilities. PD2 is fast becoming the preferred instrumentation for monitoring high voltage overhead conductors because of its easy installation, flexible communication options and proven reliability. Moreover, PD2 has the lowest investment requirement for infrastructure and start-up cost for its application range as compared to any other equipment solution. PD2 provides dependable and accurate data. Proven applications include: Dynamic Line Ratings, Line Sag and Tension monitoring, transmission line troubleshooting, alarm monitoring. PD2 us the preferred operation decision support tool for high voltage overhead conductor power transmission systems. |

Power-Donut2™ Features -Totally self-contained. -Installation is economical. A hot-stick can be used to mount the device onto an energized power conductor; it can be done with no scheduled outage. -The Power-Donut2™ is powered from the electromagnetic field surrounding the energized conductor. It has a long life lithium battery pack that maintains operation through durations up to 12 hours when current is below nominal, i.e., 50 amperes. -The Power-Donut2™ has on-board flash RAM memory for data logging, thereby providing secure, local historical trend data. Historical data is automatically transferred to the communicating device for additional data security. Power-Donut2™ Installation The Power Donut2™ can be hot-stick mounted onto an energized conductor without the need for a scheduled line outage. PD2 is attached to the conductor by means of a thermally and electrically isolated hub assembly. Hubs are available in sizes for all standard conductor code designations; the largest conductor diameter accommodated is 2.2 inches /56 mm. Hubs are field-interchangeable. Once mounted and closed, PD2 begins to operate automatically, transmitting data on request, or in real-time according to the communication option installed. It is self-contained, self-powered and designed to be weather and voltage resistant. PD2 is virtually maintenance free. |

Power-Donut2™ Radio Communication The Power-Donut2™ is manufactured with with a Quad Band GSM/GPRS wireless data transceiver. and requires no local receiving station. PC server software is available for communication and interface with the Power Donut2. The PC software communicates in real time, or on demand according to the communication option selected. Communication
can be integrated with an existing user environment via OPC™ or
ModBus™ SCADA/EMS protocols.
Power-Donut2™ Data Logging The Power-Donut2™ measures: current, phase to ground voltage, watts, vars., conductor temperatures, and the angle of inclination of the conductor at the PD2 location. Measurements can be logged on board to the flash RAM memory ensuring data security and reliability. Power-Donut2™ Applications The Power-Donut2™ is an instrumentation platform, suitable for many utility applications relating to high voltage overhead conductors. Possibilities include: -DATA SURVEY for general system planning and monitoring. Also useful for integrating with dynamic system monitoring software, such as USi's UPRATE™ -DYNAMIC LINE RATINGS. Working with actual real-time data and historically logged values, USi's UPRATE™ dynamic monitoring and line rating system has proved ratings significantly increase circuit capacity most of the time, while safety is maintained all of the time. Continuous temperature and load monitoring can result in significantly higher Short Term Emergency ratings. A portable version of the DLR system incorporating a GSM cell phone PD2 is also available. -CONDUCTOR TEMPERATURE AND ALARM MONITORING. PD2 measures conductor load (amperes), conductor temperatures and conductor sag (inclination angle) in real-time, and monitors each parameter against user defined warning and alarm level setpoints. When equipped with license free radios, PD2 reports warnings and alarms virtually instantaneously. PD2 with the cell phone communication option initiates communication with the central office to report the warning or alarm condition within 60 seconds of the event. LINE
TENSION, SAG AND CLEARANCE MONITORING. PD2 measures the conductor
inclination in real-time. The user can enter the conductor specifications
including conductor weight (lbs/foot), horizontal span for the section
of line that PD2 is attached, and the tower height difference to compute
conductor sag relative to the tower near PD2, and tension at both ends
of the conductor. Warning and alarm levels can be monitored for these
computed values.
